The Mystic Swing (also known as a Rib Tickler or a Haunted Swing) is a small human-powered ride which consists of two benches which can swing freely enclosed within another container which spins vertically. The ride begins with the seating area swinging back and forth. The outer container then begins to spin. The combination of swinging back and forth with the outer container spinning creates the illusion of going upside-down. Due to its enclosed nature the ride is dark, however lighting is used to enhance the ride.
This type of ride is seen at fairgrounds and can be packed on to a single trailer. The Madhouse ride type develops on the Mystic Swing, turning it into a much larger permanent attraction. The movement of the seats and enclosure is motorised.
