SegaWorld London was an indoor theme park located inside the London Trocadero complex in London, England, UK.[1] It was the largest theme park attraction to ever be operated by Sega and was housed in 1/6th of the entire Trocadero complex, housed on over seven floors.
History
Following 18 months of construction, SegaWorld London opened to the public on 7 September 1996.[2][3]
Initially, the park cost £12 to enter and all rides were free. From 16 December, the entry fee was lowered from to £2 and fees were introduced for individual rides. The chief executive of the Trocadero complex stated the change in pricing structure was intended to spread people out between rides and reduce queues. He suggested that British people were less patient than the Japanese and were not happy about waiting in queues for "up to an hour".[4]
Debts and low profits led to Sega opting out of the joint-venture to operate the park in September 1999 and Chorion secured the licensing to Family Leisure, who merged SegaWorld with their existing Funland arcade to form a large seven-floor entertainment complex, later reduced to two, before Funland's permanent closure in July 2011.
