Aquarena is a simulator manufactured by Sega AM5 formerly located in Tokyo Joypolis in Odaiba, Minato, Tokyo, Japan.
Ride
Aquarena was a large attraction that simulated an aquarium, where guests could interact with virtual fishes. It was represented through three 100-inch touchscreens, while smaller monitors inside would simulate the fish.
The technology for the ride was later used for the Dreamcast-based large attraction Fish Life, which was showcased in 2000 although has been rumored to not have gotten past it's location test phase. Another successor was Sega's "Fish on Chips" restaurant, which operated in Kakamigahara from 1999 until at least 2015.
History
The ride was first installed at Kyoto Joypolis for it's opening on September 11, 1997. It was removed from the park in April 1999 and relocated to sister park Tokyo Joypolis, where it opened on June 24, 1999.[1] The attraction remained at the venue until the 2000's.
